NOWRA URBAN AREA

 

The Nowra urban area is made up of Nowra, Bomaderry, North Nowra, Nowra East, South Nowra, Worrigee and Terara.

 

Perhaps the most widely recognised landmark of the Nowra area is the beautiful Shoalhven River. This unspoilt and natural wonder forms a boundary for the northern areas of  North Nowra and  Bomaderry and is linked by the Shoalhaven River bridges to other parts of the Nowra urban area.

 

Nowra is the main centre for shopping and business in Shoalhaven City. The Nowra Urban area population is 32,000. Nowra has all the major stores and a abundant speciality shops.

There is ample parking, pleasant street scapes and delightful parks for the children to play or for picnics.

The Nowra Golf Club is located at Fairway Drive North Nowra and Worrigee Links Course is located at 131 Greenwell Point Road Worrigee.

On the 4th Sunday of the month there is the Nowra Greyhound Track markets at Albatross Road Nowra. Huskisson also have a market on 1st Saturday of the month as well as Milton Flea markets. Ulldaulla Harbour markets are on the 2nd Sunday of the month and the annual event of the Blessing of the Fleet parade on Easter Sunday morning.

 

The rail terminus operates between Bomaderry and Sydney via Wollongong. Local buses service the area from the Nowra bus terminus in the centre of the CBD as well to Greenwell Point, Culburra Beach and Callala Bay. The Premier and Prior buses run from Sydney down the south coast all the way to the Melbourne as well as up the coast from Melbourne.

 

Nowra urban area offers all the usual services of a large country town as well as many attractions. These attractions include Nowra Wildlife Park, Meroogal Historic House, Australia's Museum of Flight at H.M.A.S. Albatross and Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre offering live concerts/shows on a regular basis.

 

There are many activities to do in the area with numerous sporting facilities all around the area (indoor trampolining arena, pools, ten pin bowling, golf, lawn bowls, tennis courts, sporting fields and more). There are bush walks such as Ben’s walk, Hanging Rock lookout, Nowra Hill Lookout, Canbawarra Lookout,  Bomaderry Creek walk & Green Patch & Telegraph Creek walking tracks within the Booderee National Park. As well there is the Lady Denman maritime Museum & Gallery located at Huskisson on 10 hectares with the old ferry to walk around on and duck pond.

 

Nowra urban area also boasts many restaurants, cafes, clubs and specialty shops/businesses that have achieved awards and recognition on many levels. Don't forget to indulge yourself in some wine tasting at the local Shoalhaven wineries such as; Coollangatta Estate, Mountain Ridge, Silos, Cupits, Cambawarra, Kangaroo Valley & Berry wineries.

Nowra raceway is known as Archer Raceway (Archur the winner of the 2 Melbourne Cups) hosts a number of Feature race meets as of horses and greyhound racing. The Nowra speedway is also located on the grounds
