ORIENT POINT

Located within the Shoalhaven region of the South Coast of NSW, Orient Point is a typical coastal village, which is situated at the mouth of the Crookhaven River, overlooking the ocean, the river estuary and the surrounding mountains. Bushwalk, relax by the river or beach and watch the dolphins go by, which ever way, you’ll love Orient Point.

 

Relatively undiscovered, Orient Point has traditionally been a fishing community. For those who have discovered the area, bask in its tranquility and exceptional views. Orient Point's unique location on both river and ocean make it ideal for water activities such as fishing, kayaking and canoeing.

 

The Crookhaven Headland Reserve, home to the Shoalhaven Marine Rescue Base, is undergoing a major upgrade. The walk around the headland adjacent to the historical lighthouse follows a well-developed track and provides good views of the whole of the Crookhaven Bight. Excellent catches of fish are regularly reported from the rocks near the river entrance.

 

The regional boat ramp located at Crookhaven Heads provides safe launching facilities providing access to the Crookhaven and Shoalhaven Rivers, local offshore fishing grounds and "The Banks", famous for its marlin, tuna and other game fish. The Orient Point boat ramp also gives access to the river for small craft.

 

Culburra surf beach is a 5 minutes drive, which is patrolled in the summer school holidays.

 

SCUBA divers also use the Crookhaven Heads boat ramp to access "The Banks" (For experienced divers only) and other dive sites around the Beecroft Peninsula including Lobster Bay the wrecks of the SS Merimbula and SS Wandra.

 

Orient Point is serviced by a Post Office, general store, preschool and boat ramp.

The townships of Orient Point and Culburra Beach are located 20 km east of Nowra between Lake Wollumboola and the Crookhaven River and are accessed from the Culburra Road. Nowra the major retail and commercial centre is a 20 minute drive.



The historical townships of Berry and Kangaroo Valley are 45 mins drive with attractions such as antiques, boutique shopping, coffee shops, galleries, markets, restaurants and wineries etc. Easy drive too many other interesting venues such as the Air Museum in HMAS Albatross, west of Nowra or Beecroft Peninsula (15mins) for a days outing.
